A picture of a bike blocking two seats on a train has sparked a heated debate online.
The image shows the bicycle propped up against the two single seats near one of the train’s doors while people can be seen standing up. The picture posted on Reddit was captioned: “Some people are just…”
Some users were angered by the bike’s positioning on the train. Others failed to see what all the fuss was about and some felt sympathy for the bike’s owner.
One person raged: “I’d just push it over and take a seat. I won’t be wasting my breath on some imbecile that thinks this is an appropriate place to leave their bicycle. I don’t have the patience for idiots anymore.”
Another wrote: “What a state of affairs though that we’ve reached this point, that someone can do this and get away with it because no-one wants to upset anybody instead of just yeeting it out the door, followed by the tw** of an owner.”
Others leapt to the defence of the person who placed the bike there. One commented: “I know how bad it can be to try and transport your bike by train. I don’t know this exact train layout, but often this kind of sh** is the only way of fitting bikes onto trains that aren’t designed to accommodate cyclists.
“Of course the cyclist should still stay with the bike and make sure they make space for any people who want to sit there, but that is no reason to get angry or uncivil. Just be nice to a fellow human.”
Another chimed in: “You have no right to touch someone’s bike.”
Some commenters shrugged the issue off, indicating that they would have moved the bike if they were on the train. One wrote: “If that was my bike and someone moved it to get to a seat without asking, I wouldn’t care. I get it.”
A second simply wrote: “Just ask them to move it…” to which another responded: “Literally this. Similar situation to a bag on a seat. 99.999% of the time they’ll move it and there’s zero issue.”
